What is Counselling?

Counselling is a form of talking therapy. Evidence suggests that talking things out with someone can be highly beneficial. It can be therapeutic to say out loud the thoughts and concerns that have been on your mind for some time. It can also give you new perspective, just hearing it out loud in a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space. Being heard is so important.
Counselling and Psychotherapy – these terms are often used interchangeably. Counselling is generally used for shorter term work, and Psychotherapy for longer term – perhaps working with deeper seated issues.
I work mainly as a Person-Centred counsellor, but will also use techniques such as yoga and mindfulness if I think it will be useful for a particular client.  I have also trained in Deep Brain Orienting (DBR) which can be very helpful in processing trauma.
I aim to build a strong relationship with you based on empathy, respect and authenticity. I will help you make sense of your feelings and develop trust in your own ability to see your way forward. Our shared exploration of the issues you choose to bring will bring out your own power.
