About Me

Jane Hamilton
I am a Person-Centred counsellor, a registered member of BACP (the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I abide by the Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. I work mainly in a person-centred way but will bring in techniques from Mindfulness and yoga on occasion where I think it will be helpful for particular clients.

I have spent most of my career in education, 20 years of which were in Additional Support Needs, 15 of those in Autism Support. My interest in these areas came about as a result of my own family being affected by autism, which led to studies in Autism and Psychology.

While bringing up my family I became involved in a support group for the families of young people with autism spectrum disorders and was active there for 12 years. My experiences there and later personal experience of counselling made me appreciate the importance and beneficial effect of talking therapy, and so started me on my next set of studies.

On leaving teaching, I trained as a counsellor and feel privileged to be able to ‘walk alongside’ my clients, hearing and supporting them to clarify their thoughts and feelings and seeing them gain their inner strength and knowledge of themselves.

I feel my previous experiences and studies enrich and inform my work. I have been counselling since 2018, and have worked with student counselling services, a mental health charity, an Employee Assistance Programme, and an Autism-specific Counselling charity as well as running a Private Practice.
